{"id":234,"date":"2015-11-12T00:49:12","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T00:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=234"},"modified":"2015-11-12T00:49:12","modified_gmt":"2015-11-12T00:49:12","slug":"veterans-day-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/veterans-day-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterans Day 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/iwo-jima-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-237 aligncenter\" alt=\"iwo jima 4\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/iwo-jima-4-1024x623.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/iwo-jima-4-1024x623.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/iwo-jima-4-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>As many of you know, Veterans are near and dear to our heart at 44 Business Capital.\u00a0 Last year, we were honored to be awarded NAGGL\u2019s first ever \u201cChampion of Veterans Small Business Lending Award\u201d.\u00a0 Some of my colleagues and I attended NAGGL\u2019s annual conference last week in Las Vegas.\u00a0 We were reminded once again that assimilating our Veterans back into the fabric of our society is not only economically vital but more importantly, a moral obligation.<\/p>\n<p>I had the great pleasure of having breakfast after church on Sunday with a Vietnam era <a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/shark-tank.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-239\" alt=\"shark tank\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/shark-tank-207x300.png\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/shark-tank-207x300.png 207w, https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/shark-tank.png 475w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><\/a>Veteran.\u00a0 He spoke of the reaction he got when he returned home including the disrespect and downright vitriol that was hurled his way.\u00a0 I was somewhat embarrassed that this is how our country treated returning Veterans during that era.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Danowski.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-238\" alt=\"Danowski\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Danowski-202x300.png\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Danowski-202x300.png 202w, https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Danowski.png 446w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><\/a>While there are many differing opinions on the wars we are waging in the Middle East, I believe the difference in 2015 is that we respect the returning Veterans and what they\u2019ve endured regardless of our political viewpoint.\u00a0 While this is certainly an improvement over the Vietnam era, there is still a ton of work to be done.\u00a0 The unemployment rate among Vets is simply too high.\u00a0 In addition to unemployment, many are homeless and battling PTSD. \u00a0In fact, did you know that 22 Veterans take their lives every day from PTSD? \u00a0I learned of <a title=\"Non-Profit Organization established to help those Veterans suffering from PTSD\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mission22.com\">Mission 22<\/a> recently whose mission it is to stop this horrific trend. \u00a0I encourage you to research and support this organization.<\/p>\n<p>Our marketing and public relations expert Ellen Neri and I spent the past week gathering <a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sponsorship.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-240\" alt=\"sponsorship\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sponsorship-231x300.png\" width=\"231\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sponsorship-231x300.png 231w, https:\/\/www.44businesscapital.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sponsorship.png 283w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a>information to assess our \u201cscorecard\u201d over the past year as it relates to assistance to Vets.\u00a0 I would imagine I am like most people in that I \u201cfeel\u201d like we do a lot both personally and as a company.\u00a0 But you know, when I sat down and took inventory of our efforts, I was disappointed.\u00a0 Yes, we did 3 very impactful loans to Vets.\u00a0 Yes, we have contributed to several causes.\u00a0 Yes, our employees support many Veteran causes.\u00a0 But in answering the question, could we have done more?\u00a0 All I could answer was \u2013 YES.<\/p>\n<p>This exercise made me realize that taking an inventory of your efforts in a meaningful cause has to be a more frequent occurrence, lest you veer off track.\u00a0 As of this writing, I am recommitting myself personally as well as 44 Business Capital, to the needs of Veterans.\u00a0 I hope that you might reflect as well and do your own \u201cscorecard\u201d.\u00a0 I think there is room for\u00a0improvement from all of us in supporting our Vets.<\/p>\n<p>So thanks to all our Vets and I\u2019ll leave you with a quote from Harry S.
